Greetings!

I offer private music tuition in two formats to kids (from age 10), adolescents and adults: one-to-one music lessons and group lessons (occasionally).  While I specialise in jazz tuition (teaching jazz piano, saxophone, trumpet/flugelhorn, guitar, bass, drums and voice/singing, including jazz "scat" singing), I also have students focused on the western classical, rock and pop music genres.

One-to-one, I teach music to children, adolescents and adults, from beginner to advanced levels, on most conventional instruments.  I also have experience teaching music to students with severe learning disabilities.  Whilst I have a variety of teaching qualifications, since gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in secondary music education (Key Stages 3 to 5), I do classroom teaching as well.  In addition, since September 2010, I have been teaching small groups of Year 5 and 6 primary school children (10 and 11 year-olds) with the visionary Every Child a Musician (ECaM) scheme in the London Borough of Newham (http://www.newham.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/everychildamusician.htm).

To learn more about my background, qualifications and teaching approach and philosophy, please see the Detailed Info page on this website.  You also might be interested to read various personal references from current and former students.  I hope these will give you in part some idea of my teaching demeanour.  I look forward to hearing from you and to helping your progress in music.

All the best,

Claude Alexander
